Janice is a K-12 teacher on assignment from Phoenix, Arizona. She has been recognized with the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching and National Center for Women and Information Technology (NCWIT) Educator Award, both of which continue were the result of her passion to create and sustain inclusive and equitable STEM learning opportunities for every student. To this end, she is honored to serve on several boards, including the Arizona State Board of Education, Computer Science Teachers Association, NCWIT K-12 Alliance leadership team, the National Science Teaching Association Technology Advisory Board, and to advise with the Data Science Academy.
Dr. Karina Salazar

Karina Salazar is an assistant professor in the Center for the Study of Higher Education at The University of Arizona. Her research program uses data science methodologies to collect data on the enrollment management practices of public universities and explores whether these practices undermine access for underserved student populations. Salazar is also co-principal investigator of the Enrollment Management, Recruiting, and Access research project, which investigates the recruiting and marketing practices of colleges and universities. This work has been featured by The New York Times, NPR, CNN, Inside Higher Ed, The Chronicle of Higher Education, Forbes, and U.S. News & World Report. Salazar is a local Tucsonan and proud graduate of Sunnyside High School. She completed her graduate work at the University of Arizona where her research was funded by the American Educational Research Association.
Margaret Wilch
Director of Research Southern Arizona Research, Science and Engineering Foundation
Margaret Wilch is currently Director of Research at the Southern Arizona Research, Science and Engineering Foundation (SARSEF), following a 26 -year teaching career at Tucson High Magnet School. Margaret received a Bachelor’s of Special Studies in Biology (Cornell College), MS General Biology (University of Arizona) and was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Science (University of Arizona College of Science). Margaret provides educational outreach and support to high school teachers and students to engage in authentic research projects, helping students to identify tractable research questions and methodologies. High students are also paired with mentors through the SARSEF/UA Students Taking Advantage of Research (STAR) outreach lab at UArizona.

Riley is a senior finishing her Bachelor of Science in Systems Engineering at The University of Arizona with a minor in Computer Science. As a student researcher in the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering she optimizes workflow for the curation of hardware solutions for scalable self-driving vehicle experiments. This work followed her participation in a Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) in the same lab creating a programming language for elementary students to control a self-driving vehicle. Riley is also Vice President of University of Arizona’s Engineering Student Council, a former teaching assistant in the department of Computer Science, and a mentor for first year students in STEM in the Honors College. In 2017, she earned the Girl Scout Gold Award for creating K12 computer science education programs.
